De 12de editie van het Brussels Film Festival werd zaterdag afgesloten met een ceremonie waarbij de prijzen werden uitgereikt in aanwezigheid van de laureaten, gevolgd door de film THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY, de eerste langspeelfilm van Hossein Amini (scenarist van de cultfilm Drive) naar de gelijknamige roman van de koningin van de thrillers Patricia Highsmith.  De officiële jury bestond uit zanger Raphaël, de acteurs Fabrizio Rongione en Olivier Rabourdin, alsook de actrices Hande Kodja en Anita Kravos. 

Deze editie van het festival wist 30.000 enthousiaste festivalgangers te lokken voor films, concerten en ontmoetingen. Gewijd aan de Europese cinema, presenteerde het festival een Officiële competitie, een Panorama vol ontdekkingen, speciale voorstellingen en openluchtvertoningen van Belgische films.

Het festival werd geopend met de film LA CHAMBRE BLEUE van Mathieu Amalric,  een adaptatie van die andere meester in de politieromans, Georges Simenon. Na Peter Greenaway en Bertrand Tavernier, verwelkomde het festival dit jaar eregast Sir Alan Parker die de toeschouwers wist te boeien met een Master Class in Flagey, alvorens The Commitments voor te stellen naar aanleiding van de start van een integrale retrospectieve van zijn oeuvre.  Twee workshops boden de kans aan cinefielen en filmprofessionals om regisseur Pierre Salvadori en scenarist Pascal Bonitzer te ontmoeten

Voor het vijfde jaar onder zijn leiding, zette Ivan Corbisier de verscheidenheid van de Europese cinema in de verf met films zoals het ontroerende Life Feels Good van Maciej Pieprzyca, het indrukwekkende Miss Violence van Alexandros Avranas, het kafkaëske The Double van Richard Ayoade, de Tiroolse western The Dark Valley van Andreas Prochaska, het ironische Of Horses and Men van Benedikt Erlingsson, de kleurrijke komedie Three Many Weddings van Javier Ruiz Caldera en de tragi-komedie Smetto Quando Voglio van Sydney Sibilia.  Tijdens thema-avonden konden de festivalgangers zich laten onderdompelen in de filmkunst van een land, met tussen de vertoningen door de gelegenheid om de lokale smaken en tradities te ontdekken.  Zo werden dit jaar Polen, Griekenland, Spanje en Italië in de schijnwerpers gezet.

 

Het festival ontving in wereldpremière DE VIJFTIG SMEERLAPPEN, een expositie van 50 foto’s van Belgische acteurs van de hand van de Luikse fotograaf Rudy Lamboray, in de lijn van de Dirty Fifty van Robert Aldrich. Geopend op vrijdag 6 juni in de aanwezigheid van het merendeel van de geportretteerde acteurs, lokte de expositie talrijke toeschouwers.

 

Beroemd om zijn concerten, stelde het Brussels Film Festival een belangrijk muzikaal luik voor, met de projectie van muziekdocumentaires, de organisatie van een speed-dating tussen producenten en muzikanten, feesten en DJ-sets. Flagey daverde op zijn grondvesten tijdens een cine-concert gebracht door de Luikse groep MLCD (My Little Cheap Dictaphone), het Antwerpse THE FLYING HORSEMAN en de Chileense groep FOLLAKZOID.

 

Ook dit jaar verwelkomde het festival talrijke gasten zoals Sir Alan Parker, Samuel Benchetrit, Anna Mouglalis, Alexandros Avranas, Pascal Bonitzer, François Clos, Gilles Coronado, Jean-Luc Couchard, Laurent D’Elia, Pascale Ferran, Julien Fezans,Sophie Fillières, Frédéric Fonteyne, Ronald Guttman, Jan Hammenecker, Marion Hänsel, Iram Haq, Damian John Harper, Hande Kodja, Anita Kravos, Thomas Lallier, Ferran Mesa, Antoine Mouniax, Anna Nehrebecka, Sofia Norlin, Anna Odell, Janko Popovic Volaric, Olivier Rabourdin, Luca Ragazzi, Raphaël, Fabrizio Rongione, Nicolas Ruffault, Pierre Salvadori, Sydney Sibilia, Delphine Tempels, Yorgos Tsemberopoulos, Dick Tuinder, Jaco Van Dormael, Gabriel Velazquez, Alfonso Zarauza, enz.
